About

Mission

At Hartwell Counseling it is our mission to:

  • Promote change, resilience, and connection in the lives of our clients
  • Provide a calm, understanding environment
  • Emphasize personal strengths, resilience, self-compassion and humor
  • Empower clients to take control of their own mental and emotional well-being

Our counseling approach focuses on evidence-based treatment such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gottman Relationship Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy, while also incorporating play therapy techniques and expressive art techniques when working with families with younger children. Through our education and experience, we have learned that unhelpful thought patterns, as well as difficulty regulating and communicating emotions effectively, are primary sources of distress for people. This can significantly impact our behavior and relationships in negative and sometimes very painful ways. Our treatment approach focuses on creating healthier thinking and healthier boundaries, leading to happier relationships.

I was born and raised in Winter Springs, Florida, and have lived in Central Florida all my life. Ever since an early age I have known that I wanted to work in a helping profession. Due to this I first became interested in becoming a therapist during my undergraduate years at Rollins College, where I received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology. I was also a member of the Rollins College Concert Choir and Rollins Singers a Capella group.

After graduation, I worked various jobs while exploring graduate programs and in 2012, I applied and was accepted to the Rollins Master’s in Mental Health Counseling program. During graduate school, I studied and refined my skills in counseling individuals, couples, and families and completed the Family and Relationship Therapy certificate program. My pre-practicum experience included working at a substance abuse residential facility for adolescents, as well as doing social justice advocacy work with Equality Florida, an organization dedicated to fighting for equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community. I completed my clinical internship working with children and families impacted by physical and sexual abuse, and gained considerable experience using trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).

After completing the graduate program, I began working with clients and families in both private and public agency settings before opening Hartwell Counseling, LLC in 2019. When I am not working, I am spending time with my husband and daughter, and our energetic black lab, Lana. Outside of counseling, I am passionate about singing, exercising, and DIY projects.
